Laying Foundations for Student Success

2023 BYU General Education Academy Review

On June 2, the annual General Education Academy event took place in the Maeser Buidling. GE faculty members met to learn from each other and prepare for a new school year. Faculty members presented on a variety of topics, with many focusing on helping the individual student overcome obstacles and achieve success at Brigham Young University.

Information about a new class, “UNIV 101: First-Year Foundations for Student Success”, which will be required for all incoming freshman beginning Winter 2024, was shared with faculty, providing context for the structure and purpose of the new course.

A panel discussion took place entitled “What You Need to Know about What Students Don’t Know”. Panel members included Liz Bailey (Biology), Ben Gibbs, (Sociology), Emma Lambert (FYE Peer Mentor) , and Amanda Maloy (FYE Peer Mentor).

Director of General Education Chip Oscarson shared final thoughts.
