  2. Gather all course information.
    a. Faculty Names: Anyone who has taught the course in the past three years as well as those who may be teaching in the future.
    b. Syllabi: One for each instructor. Each syllabus should clearly state GE certification area and GE learning outcomes as if the course were GE certified.
    c. Required Text and Readings

    e. Recent exams: Two most recent semesters, or for courses never taught before, a description of the exams to be written.
    f. Assignment Prompts: Assignments prompts or other classroom experiences that align with foundation document learning outcomes and samples of student work.
    g. Foundation Document Learning Outcomes Explanation: Explain how your course aligns with each learning outcome and course characteristic from the applicable foundation document. See templates here. If certifying in more than one category, fill out a request for each requirement.
    h. Student evaluations: Quantitative and qualitative (two most recent semesters) for existing courses.
    i. Grade Distributions: Two most recent years for existing courses.
    j. Other files (including, if necessary, memoranda of understanding, other contextualizing information, etc.).

3. Submit a "General Education Certification" proposal through Coursedog. Select either "General Education Certification (Existing Course)" or "General Education Certification (New Course)". See example proposal here. We will confirm the receipt of a complete application.

4. Proposals go first to departments and colleges for approval.

5. Faculty General Education Council will evaluate your course and ask for any additional information or clarifications.

6. If approved, GE will submit your course for certification in the upcoming course catalog. Changes go into affect the first day of fall in the following academic year.
