In this class, we explore families from a scientific posture to examine communication, conflict, traditions, finances, forming romantic relationships, marriage, and the parent/child relationship. We use inquiry, curiosity and creativity to find solutions to relationship needs.

This course introduces students to a wide variety of topics in the social sciences and humanities, through the lens of popular films and television programs. For example, we will study cultural geography in Napoleon Dynamite, religious anthropology in Star Wars, and psychology in The Truman Show.

What is the relationship between myth and memory in the history of the United States?

This “big question” will guide our class discussions, activities, and assignments as we examine and confront some of the most enduring myths pertaining to US history. As we explore this question, we will also learn about the discipline of history and the methodology used by professionally trained historians to develop questions, gather and analyze sources, and produce interpretations of the past.
