Do Accidents Really Happen? Chance, Fate, and Randomness in Western Culture

IHUM 201: Western Humanities: GE Civilization 1 Requirement

This course is about asking how much of what happens in our life is determined and how much is due to chance. In trying to answer that question, we will be engaging with writers and artists from ancient Greece to the present who have discussed or represented concepts like fate, providence, and randomness, and how those ideas challenge or help us make sense of the external world and our place in it.
