Emerging Adulthood: The Developmental Context for Educating the Whole Person

Thursday, November 18
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Room 321, Maeser Building

Our Inspiring Teaching Workshop series continues on November 18 at 11 a.m. in the MSRB with a presentation and discussion on “Emerging Adulthood: The Developmental Context for Educating the Whole Person” led by Larry Nelson, professor in the School of Family Life and recipient of the 2020 General Education Professorship.

Dr. Nelson teaches courses in human development and is the president of the Society for the Study of Emerging Adulthood. He is a leader in research on the development of parent-child relationships, peer relations, and emerging adulthood. The goal of this workshop is to help GE instructors better understand how to support students by educating “the total person” (BYU Mission Statement). To do this, instructors must understand where young people are developmentally. This presentation will describe the features of emerging adulthood and the developmental tasks young people are striving to accomplish during this time of transition.

If you missed the discussion, you can still watch it.
