Q: Is UNIV 101 a new class?

The peer mentor is trained by the Office of First-Year Experience to help students effectively access necessary resources at the university and transition to life as a student and independent learner. They are not TAs, but they should be used to help teach key concepts, to council with students, and to help faculty members teach about the resources available to students who need them.

Q: What if I cannot take UNIV 101 in my first semester?

A: All students are required to take UNIV 101 during their first semester on campus. In the rare cases in which students cannot enroll in UNIV 101 in the first semester, the student should reach out to byu_foundations@byu.edu to request an exemption for the first semester to avoid having a hold placed on their registration. If granted an exemption, the student will need to take UNIV 101 during their first semester on campus.
