Design Committee Updates

UE Dean Susan Rugh visited with college deans and discussed GE reform. The deans are supportive of the reform. A steering committee was appointed to help direct the work of the committee whose charge is to build on the work of the first GE Design Committee and consider comments from faculty feedback. In order to facilitate the creation of a small suite of program learning outcomes, committee members formed into groups. The groups will identify current GE models from across the country and determine elements innovatively aligning GE principles with courses, combinations of courses, programs, etc. in such areas as communication, modes of inquiry, civic engagement, and life skills. The committee will create principle-based statements from their findings to articulate and summarize the purposes of general education at BYU and align with BYU Mission and Aims.
