PAST ACADEMIES ON TEACHING & LEARNING

  2008

Russell T. Osguthorpe,  Corey University Professor of Instructional Psychology and Technology, and
Director of BYU's Center for Teaching and Learning was the plenary speaker. His first address was entitled:

"Agency, Love, and Education" and his second, "Success: Making It Happen in General Education."  Participants were given a copy of Dr Osguthorpe's book, Choose to Learn which he cowrote with his wife, Lolly.

2007
The guest speaker for 2007 was Linda Suskie, Vice President, Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Her presentation was entitle, "The Assessment Toolbox." Participants were given a copy of her book, Assessing Student Learning.
 
2006

The guest speaker for 2006 was John Tagg, Professor of English at Palomar College and author of, The Learning Paradigm College. His plenary speech was entitled, "General Education in the Learning Paradigm: Starting Where the Learners Are."
  2005

The plenary speaker for this year was Todd Britsch, former Academic Vice President & Professor of Humanities whose presentation was titled "Trusting BYU's Prophetic Mission: Some General Education Prespectives."

The book, Educating Zion, was also discussed.
  2004

The theme for the 2004 Academy was "Teachers Learning from Teachers." 

Discussion was based on Robert Leamnson's book, Thinking about Teaching and Learning. Professor Leamnson is a Professor Chemistry and Director of Multidisciplinary Studies, Unversity of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.

2003

The guest speaker for this Academy was Marilla Svinick, Director of The Center for Teaching Effectiveness, The University of Texas at Austin.

The theme for 2003 was "Meaningful Learning that Endures"
