General Education

Appeal Procedure

In rare and special situations, a student may wish to request a substitution for General Education credit. Substitution of a GE course or requirement is handled on a case-by-case basis. When approving a substitution for an individual student, its effect on other students and the university's interests will be carefully considered. Expediency (such as a need to graduate soon) or extenuating personal circumstances are not sufficient reasons for granting a substitution.

In considering possible substitutions for GE courses, you should consult the foundation document for the requirement in question. A substitution will be granted only when the class substituted clearly meets the objectives of the particular requirement. You will want to consult with your advisement center, visit your MyMAP and the University Core to make sure that you need to make a substitution. Read the instruction sheet Petition for a GE Substitution and follow the procedures outlined.
